2023 Subaru Solterra
The Solterra is the first electric vehicle from Subaru. It's built on the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X but keeps the features and capability consumers expect from a Subaru. This EV feels like a typical SUV that happens to have an electric powertrain, but it is also ready to tack rough terrain. Take a look at some of the details for the all-new Subaru Solterra.
Trin Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Premium comes with 18-inch wheels, all-season tires, roof rails, LED headlights, and heated side exterior mirrors. Bumping up to the Limited gets you 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, a power liftgate, roof rails, a roof spoiler, and heated, power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The Touring is the top-level trim. It adds to the Limited with a panoramic glass sunroof with a shade.
Engine (Power)
All Solterra models use two electric motors and a 72.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack. This setup generates 215 horsepower and delivers 249 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with all-wheel drive. The engine has four different drive modes that change the power. Drivers can choose from Normal, Eco, X-Mode, and Power. When hooked up to a DC fast charger, it only takes about an hour to charge the battery up to 80%, and it can get a full charge using a Level 2 charger in about nine hours.
Performance
The Solterra offers all the capabilities of a Subaru but doesn't use any greenhouse gases. Its 8.3 inches of ground clearance helps it traverse over rough terrain, and the available Grip Control works like a low-speed cruise control. Models with the 18-inch wheels can go up to 228 miles on a full charge, and models with the 20-inch wheels can travel up to 222 miles on a fully charged battery. This EV is more off-road capable than other vehicles in the same class, with 19.7 inches of water fording capability and better approach and departure angles.
Interior
There's room for five in the Solterra. The Premium has cloth upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The 60/40 split rear seats make it easy to adjust the cargo space. The Limited adds to the cabin with a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory functions, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel, and the Touring adds ventilated front seats.
Technology in the Solterra starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7-inch LCD instrument panel. The Limited upgrades to a 12.3-inch touchscreen and adds wireless charging and an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Solterra comes with advanced safety systems. The Subaru EyeSight suite includes forward collision warning, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. It also comes with lane-keep assist and emergency steering assist, which works with the forward collision mitigation system to help avoid collisions. It also has a front cross-traffic alert system. The Limited adds a 360-degree surround-view camera system, which is a first for Subaru, and it comes with a semi-automated parking system that can help the driver park in parallel and perpendicular parking spots.
