With the Onyx Edition XT and higher trim levels, you'll get a 2.4-liter, turbocharged engine that offers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Both options use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters and an eight-speed manual mode. All-wheel drive is standard.

The Outback is maneuverable and fun to drive, and it has outstanding acceleration and an independent suspension for a comfortable, smooth ride. Standard features include traction control, electronic stability control, power steering, and a brake override system that activates only the brake if you use the brake and accelerator at the same time by accident. With the 2.5-liter engine, this vehicle can tow up to 2,700 pounds. It can pull up to 3,500 pounds with the 2.4-liter motor. The X-Mode driving mode helps improve traction on slippery surfaces.
